During an Instagram AMA, Janhvi Kapoor shared her admiration for Zendaya's method of dressing in films like Dune and Challengers. Taking inspiration, Janhvi has been seen sporting outfits in line with her film, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, during its pre-release events. Recently, she caught attention in a red dress with cricket ball miniatures at the back, wore a jersey-like blouse at the trailer launch, and completed her look at the song unveiling with a purse resembling a cricket ball.
Janhvi Kapoor shared with News18 Showsha how she attempted to encourage her co-star Rajkummar Rao to do the same.
She said, “I had given Raj some cricket brooches and had told him to wear them.”
Janhvi Kapoor has been dressing herself and crafting her own outfits for the promotions of Mr. and Mrs. Mahi. She jokingly mentions that she has been styling her family and friends professionally for some time now. Janhvi said, “Uorfi, Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, and even Alia during Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani had done such a great job, and they did it so beautifully. That not only had a recall value for their films but also brought attention back to their films.”
Pleased with the positive attention her fashion choices are receiving for her movie, she expressed, “I am having fun with it. I love dressing up. It feels like working on a school assignment. So, I am treating it like that (laughs). My stylist and I are sitting on each look and accessory. I don’t know how much it will help the film, but I’m happy that it has become a little bit of a talking point.”
Janhvi mentioned that this marks her second instance of dressing up in line with her movie's theme, the first being her debut film, Dhadak. She went on to explain, “Every time there’s a film coming out, the makers and the team always tell us to dress similar to our characters. I did that in Dhadak and then realized that there’s a fair amount of attention paid to how all of us actors dress and look, and that becomes a talking point. Method dressing is just one more trope.”
The Mr. and Mrs. Mahi trailer showcases the lead characters' love story, their passion for cricket, and their pursuit of success. Directed by Sharan Sharma, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 31.
