Rupali Suri shot to fame with her role in Bharat Dabholkar’s play 'Bottoms Up' in 2016. The actress won praise for her act, transforming from a saucy security guard to Sonia Gandhi. Years later, Dabholkar and Rupali have teamed up once again, this time, for an upcoming film.
Speaking about his collaboration with the actress, Dabholkar said, “Bottoms Up was a huge success. It brought out the talents of the likes of Shiamak Davar, Javed Jaaferi, Arshad Warsi and Shahid Kapoor as well.
The format was such that we had different skits, songs and dances with each actor not even getting time between each character and costume transformation. Like when Rupali came in as a security guard, exited and returned as Sonia Gandhi, her acting skills were best put to test. A dance sequence followed and in came the actress as a Gujarati housewife, putting her performing skills to the test once again."
Bharat, who has been working on several projects, including a trilingual film, shared his excitement about collaborating with the actress again. He said, "Just before lockdown, I was looking to make a three-film series in Birmingham, inspired by the response to our theatre ventures. I knew then that I needed a committed actor like Rupali. She has a dominating screen presence. When you are a character actor, you can blend into anything, but when you have a strong persona and are a lead, you have to work much harder to change characters in a matter of microseconds. It requires a lot of commitment besides acting skills. And that is what makes Rupali stand apart from the rest."
Dabholkar's forthcoming projects include one with Mohit Suri and a Marathi web series, among many others.
