Effingham County is located within the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit of the Superior Court First District.

In addition to the Superior Court the people of Effingham County are served by a Probate Court, a Juvenile Court, a Magistrate Court, two Municipal Courts and a State Court.

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia has jurisdiction in Effingham County. Appeals from the Southern District go to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Election rules

Primary election

Most court elections in Georgia are nonpartisan. Counties may choose to hold partisan elections for probate court positions. There are only judicial primaries for partisan elections.[1][2]

Runoff election

If no candidate receives a majority of the votes in the election (at least 50%+1 of the vote), a runoff election will be held between the two candidates with the most votes.[3]
