A documentary on Parvathy Baul captures the essence of Baul songs

A documentary featuring the internationally acclaimed Parvathy Baul will be launched on World Music Day. This project will authentically capture the essence of Baul songs, transitioning from the traditional 'Akhra' to the screen. The documentary, along with five unique and previously unheard songs, will enrich the digital landscape with the rich legacy of folk music.Parvathy Baul delves into the intricacies of Baul Sangeet, sharing the challenges of sustaining this art form. Each song’s essence, value, and context are meticulously explained, imbuing the content with profound significance. Highlighting her own Sanatan Siddhashram, the documentary vividly illustrates the practice and spiritual depth of baul music.
The vocal and curation is by Parvathy Baul and direction by Subhadeep Guha. Parvathy Baul said, “In the era of commercial release, the thought of bringing up the untouched, rich Baul culture, directly from the 'Akhra' to the 'Screens', requires a lot of courage.” She added, “This has 3 docu-episodes and five unheard Baul songs. It is not just a project to us; it was a dream for us that we present Baul to the world in this manner. We have been preparing this project for the last one year. My first work with Subhadeep didn't feel that way as we both completed the project hand in hand. His music directorial expertise and the contribution of each musician has enhanced the songs in various ways. I hope this project will be an asset as a documentation of Baul way of living”.
Subhadeep expressed his thoughts, saying, “Working closely with Parvathy Baul, that too with a subject like baul music, is a lifetime experience. As a team, we have worked very hard to maintain the authenticity of each song and bring out the root essence of baul music. I hope this project reaches the
