Movie Review: "Ant-Man and The Wasp" Is Marvel at its Lightest and Most Fun

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Hannah John-Kamen, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfieffer Directed by Peyton Reed Reviewed by Paul Gibbs   Out of Four To say Marvel has had a great year so far would be an absurd understatement. After all, in 20 years only two other films managed to out gross Titanic at the U.S. box office, and Marvel has already done it twice this year. The first of these blockbusters, Black Panther, was a masterpiece. The second, Avengers: Infinity War was an incredibly entertaining event movie that still felt more like a season ending cliffhanger with an unsatisfying ending to me (sorry, I didn't cry at the "deaths" of characters who already have their next sequels scheduled for release. And I've been known to cry at 33 year old Golden Girls reruns.) Marvel's third 2018 venture, Ant-Man and The Wasp, isn't going to come close to matching the grosses of the first two. An

Movie Review: "Deadpool 2" Has Better Action, More Laughs And An Added Moral Compass

DEADPOOL 2 Starring Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz,  T.J. Miller,  Brianna Hildebrand, Jack Kesy and Eddie Marsan Screenplay by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Ryan Reynolds Directed by David Leitch Reviewed by Patrick Gibbs     Out of Four I'm late to the party on Deadpool. I hate red band trailers with a passion, because far too often they are used to sell the movie to the crowd that just cares about graphic content and hearing lots of curse words. That doesn't offend me on a moral level, but it does on an artistic and comedic one. The red band trailers for the original  Deadpool  were far more based around proving how R-Rated it could be than how funny it could be, and when I missed the press screening due to illness, I just couldn't get excited about seeing it.  When I did, there was a lot I liked, but I could not have cared less about the revenge story and despite all of the buzz about how innovative the mo

Lucasfilm Congratulates Marvel For Infinity War's Record Breaking Opening Weekend

Lucasfilm has congratulated Marvel on their record-breaking opening weekend for Avengers: Infinity War.  In the signed picture by 'Kathy' which is of course Kathleen Kennedy, we see a hand holding a lightsaber passing it on to an Ironman hand.  The words say: "From a galaxy far, far away...to Earth's Mightiest Heroes...congratulations on the biggest opening weekend in history! From Kathy and everyone at Lucasfilm!" This congratulatory message continues in a tradition that has seen Steven Spielberg and George Lucas exchange congratulation messages when their big movie has surpassed the others.  Here's a few examples from over the years: Steven Spielberg congratulating George Lucas for Star Wars moving ahead of Jaws in domestic film rentals Steven congratulates George once again for Star Wars Jurassic World congratulates Star Wars. George Lucas congratulates Steven Spielberg for E.T overtaking Star Wars for domestic film rentals

Movie Review: "Infinity War" Is Big, Exciting, Intense And Funny . . . But Still Not Very Satisfying

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Starring Robert Downey, Jr. Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany,  Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Danai Guira, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt and Josh Brolin Screenplay by Christophe Markus and Stephen McFeely Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo Reviewed by Patrick & Paul Gibb s   Out of Four 10 years ago at this time, we were all talking about Indiana Jones and The Dark Knight. The latter blew everyone away, and the former received mixed reaction (retcon will tell you it was all negative, but a quick look at Rotten Tomatoes disproves that fallacy.). But. But no one expected Iron Man to be the most important film of the summer, much less the beginning of a major reworking of blockbuster film making as a medium. The concept of the marvel cinematic universe changed everything, and the rest of Hollywoo

WITNESS STAR WARS HISTORY IN THE MAKING WITH STAR WARS #50

Don’t miss the start of the Kieron Gillen’s biggest Star Wars story ever in comics! After building their forces in complete secrecy, the Rebel Fleet is finally ready. But how long will they be able to stay hidden from the dark clutches of the Empire – and Darth Vader himself? Star Wars fans won’t want to miss series writer Kieron Gillen’s epic landmark issue where all may be lost…and all hope may die! “When I was asked to take over the book, having a big story for the magical issue #50 was very much in my goals,” said Gillen. “As such, I've spent the first twelve issues building up to this, which is basically the biggest story I've told in Star Wars. It's an event-level tragedy on an epic scale, and it’s designed as the key bridging piece between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. I also haven't written Darth Vader in ages, so now's the time to start having my lightsaber fun again!” Since the comic’s launch in 2015, fans have followed the legendary journey

Movie Review: "Thor: Ragnorok" Is A Campy And Very Funny Ode To B-Science Fiction

THOR: RAGNOROK Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston,  Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban,  Jeff Goldblum  Anthony Hopkins and Mark Ruffalo Screenplay by Eric Pearson and Craig Kyle & Christopher Yost Directed by Taika Waititi Reviewed by by Patrick & Paul Gibbs  Out of Four It seems there has been a backlash against the original Thor over time,   but personally we are quite fond of Kenneth Branagh's film .  Natalie Portman's Jane Foster character has been vilified by many, and she was indeed a bit of of a swooning Mary Swann (a hybrid of the Mary Sue designation and Twilight' s Bella Swann, who is basically a Mary Sue without the "good at things" element), but the combination of King Lear (Edgar and Edmund, the sons of Glouchester, to be specific) and  Crocodile Dundee with a Norse God was an awful lot of fun, and after the misfire of Iron Man 2 it was the movie that sold us on actually
